New Email Feature

Friday 12 July 2024

We are delighted to announce our new email system that will enable you to more effectivly communicate with your stakeholders!

As School Life grows, the amount of emails the systems processes also grows, meaning our platform sends tens of thousands of emails each day. Our aim is to maitain the highest level of send rate we possibly can and to do this our developers and tech geniuses have created a brand new system for our email processing and sending.

The School Life system will now automatically disable an email account that it receives errors sending to.

There are valid reasons for disabling email addresses with errors. Let’s explore a few:

  1. Data Quality and Accuracy:
    • Disabling non-working email addresses ensures that your database or contact list remains accurate. When an email address bounces repeatedly due to errors (e.g., invalid domain, mailbox full, or non-existent user), it affects the reliability of your communication.
    • By disabling such addresses, we maintain data quality and prevent sending messages to dead-end destinations.
  1. Resource Optimisation:
    • Sending emails consumes resources (server capacity, bandwidth, etc.). When emails bounce, these resources are wasted.
    • Disabling erroneous addresses conserves resources and allows you to allocate them more effectively.
  1. Avoiding Reputation Damage:
    • Email service providers monitor bounce rates. High bounce rates negatively impact our sender reputation.
    • Disabling problematic addresses helps maintain a positive reputation, ensuring your legitimate emails reach recipients’ inboxes.
  1. Security and Fraud Prevention:
    • Some non-working addresses may be intentionally malicious (e.g., typo-squatting, phishing attempts).
    • Disabling them reduces the risk of security breaches and protects your school and users.

Remember, proactive management of email addresses contributes to efficient communication and better overall performance!

To see if you have any contacts that have had the email disabled, simply search for staff, students of parents in the 'Find People' module of the School Life platform, from there if any person has their email disabled you will see the following information next to their account.

If you need to then enable the user, simply click on edit and double check their email address and put a tick in the box labelled 'Email Enabled'.

The system will then be able to send messages again to that user, however if the system still has problems sending to that address, it will disable the email once more.
