Features of the School Life Website & Mobile Software for Schools

School Life Features

Content Editing

The School Life platform makes content editing simple and intuitive with its easy drag and drop page editor. So, adding content or updating your school website and mobile app is a breeze! There's no need to be a 'techie' or know any code when creating content as it's simply a matter of drag and drop or select an option which are all already there for you.

Create new pages, galleries, document Lists, forms and more from a pre-set list of available sections. Each of the pre-set pages have their own particular drag and drop elements to design your page.

Re-ordering elements within your content is as easy as dragging and dropping the section you want above or below another section. Once done, changes are automatically saved for you!

You can now change the permissions for the content from the 'Access' tab. This allows you to display relevant content to just parents, staff/teachers or students, . You can also restrict access to certain content to just teachers for example.

Homework

Remembering what you need to do for your homework is one thing, but remembering you have any homework at all is another issue!

School Life allows teachers to create homework for their classes using the 'Homework Module'.

Set the Title, and Due Date and fill out the homework details using the easy drag and drop editor.

You can then assign homework to the groups or classes you created previously.

The student or parent can then login to the school website and view their assigned homework under the homework option in the menu - No more excuses for not doing, or not knowing what homework!

Newsletters

Newsletters are important to all schools, they provide key information on whats happening within the school and its community. Unfortunately, on many occasions, printed newsletters don't reach the parents on time - if at all.

School Life resolves this issue with the 'Newsletter Module'. This module allows designated staff members to create and edit newsletters online ready to be distributed to parents and staff.

The easy to use drag and drop content editor allows multiple staff to edit and amend newsletters, perhaps with their specific departments information, news and announcements.

Once ready to publish, just clicking a button sends it out via email. A checkbox enables it to be sent by push notification via the schools 'School Life' mobile app.

If parents & guardians are not using the app, they can login to the schools website using their username/password and read it under the newsletters section on the website.

News and Blog

Along with Newsletters for parents, general school news can be very important. Being able to let everyone know it's World Book Day, or that the school is closed due to snow is invaluable.

News can be assigned and visible to only certain groups or classes to just staff or everyone.

Creating news posts using the News module in School Life is as easy as editing any other sections, as it uses the same drag and drop content editor. So, you're able to create the news article and publish it within seconds should you need to.

Blogs and Blog Posts are very similar to the news articles. The main difference is that blog posts are grouped by the month of publication, making it easier for users to search and read the information they're looking for.

Email

Email is another important communication method used by people and businesses daily. The 'Email Module' allows staff to create, attach items, schedule and send emails directly from the School Life system using a simple intuitive email client.

Recipients are selected from the users already associated with the school, including parents, staff, and students. You can select people individually or select a previously created group. For example, selecting the group "Football Team" and selecting "Parent" will email parents with a child associated with the "Football Team" group.

This allows you to send emails quickly and accurately to the right people, from all staff, to a select group of people, depending on the group.

The School Life 'Email Module' allows you to schedule future emails, view previously sent emails and their content, who sent the email, and to which group/s or individuals it was sent to.

Push Notifications

Many schools still use text messaging (SMS) to communicate with parents. This is not only outdated communication method, its also proven to be an expensive option for schools.

Every few years people often update or change their mobile phone, this in turn often means a new phone number. This leads to text messages (SMS) messages not being received by parents and in a worst case scenario, sensitive information being sent to the wrong person.

This leaves the parent missing potentially vital information, meanwhile costing the school money in the process!

The 'Push Notification Module' operates differently from SMS messages. It doesn't rely on the telephone number but the users account with School Life.

Once logged in, the parent, staff member or student can receive a push notification targeted directly to them or the groups or classes they're associated with.

Once the user has the The School Life Mobile Application can be installed from either iTunes or Google Play, they then simply login with their username/password to gain access to their account with the school and thats it! This means if they change their mobile number, mobile network or even device, they can download the app and continue to receive the messages without having to remember to notify the school of the change.

Similar to the emails module you can view previously sent messages and also schedule future messages to be sent.

Forms and Surveys

Receiving valuable feedback from parents or guardians is vital for the smooth running of every school. The School Life software makes that simple by providing a "Form" page, where you can create your own forms.

Creating a new form is particularly easy; when making a new page, simply drag in the "form" section type, this puts in a new form section to be used.

Using the standard drag and drop editor, you place the fields you want in to the form. Options range from single or multi text lines, date sections, multiple choices and checkboxes.

The forms created can be accessed by the public or can be hidden to only be accessed by certain groups and classes.

For more information on creating unique surveys, which can be accessed online and offline and linked directly on your school's website, please go to Kuwanda.

Groups and Classes

Having the ability to communicate to specific groups can be invaluable to a school and its staff members. Managing users and groups within the School Life software is an extremely simple process.

Every user account on the schools (School Life) system is allocated to a top level group when first entered; these are 'Staff Member', 'Parent or Guardian' or 'Student'. This automatically controls their level of access to certain content once they have logged in to the website or mobile app.

Staff members can have additional permissions assigned. This allows them to set a specific member of staff, such as a receptionist to create sections of the newsletters, but are not allowed to send Push Nofications for example.

Once users have been created, they can be added to further sub-groups that you create on the system. Groups can be called anything you like, such as 'Year 2', 'Craft Club', 'Blue Group', or 'School Football Team'.

Managing users is as straight forward as dragging and dropping their name from one box to another!

Groups are used throughout the School Life platform to make it easier for schools to display the correct information to the correct users - as well as for sending notifications and emails to the correct recipients.

Parents Evening and Events

Parents evening is one of the most time consuming processes for schools. Lots of paperwork and organisation is required days before the evening has even started.

School Life's Parents Evening module aims to make the process much less complicated and a more efficient process.

Once the event has been created and staff members added, time slots can be allocated to each of the staff members which then become available for the parents to book.

Booking can be made either through the School Life Mobile Application or via the school's (School Life) website, where they can select the time slot that most suits them. Once a slot has been taken, it cannot be booked by another parent.

Everything is logged within the School Life platform, so no more double booking, no more paperwork or letters to send out, saving time, money, and effort!

School Calendars

School calendars provide date specific information to specific groups or public.

Using the same easy to use drag and drop editing which is featured throughout the software, staff are able to create calendar posts on the website/mobile application - ideal for keeping up to date on events, plays, fetes, open evenings, school trips and more.

Calendar entries can be available publicly (for a music evening for example), or set specifically for groups or classes, which can only be seen once a user has logged in.
